Ava DuVernay, a renowned director and TV producer, collaborated with Ben & Jerry's on her most recent film.
The taste profile for the upcoming Lights! film was directed by Ava DuVernay. Melon! Get moving! treat, creating a vanilla ice cream with salted caramel and graham cracker swirls, as well as chocolate chip cookie dough, in collaboration with Ben & Jerry's taste experts.
The new flavor will be introduced in January 2023 and will be offered as a frozen treat with almond milk in addition to ice cream.
According to Ben & Jerry's, DuVernay's nonprofit, ARRAY Alliance, which strives to advance social justice through art and amplifies and elevates the work of artists of color and women filmmakers, will benefit from the flavor's sales. People from underrepresented populations who aspire to participate in the film business can also get funds from the organization, mentorship, and education, as well as inclusive film sets created by the organization.
"Partnering with Ben & Jerry's, a company that I've long admired for their commitment to social justice, has been a thrill ride,” Ava DuVernay said. “I had the opportunity to work with food scientists to create a flavor with all the ingredients that I personally love for a cause close to my heart. Beyond being downright delicious, proceeds from Lights! Caramel! Action! will help ARRAY Alliance further its non-profit mission of inclusion and belonging in the film and TV industries. A worthy and delicious endeavor."
Ava DuVernay's new flavor, which makes her the first Black woman to appear as a featured partner on a Ben & Jerry's pint, is a permanent addition to the company's lineup. Both grocery store freezers and franchised scoop shops across the US will sell it.
